Connect Instagram (Business or Creator)

How to connect an Instagram account through Meta and what is and is not supported.

Updated May 12, 2026·1 min read

Instagram publishing requires a Business or Creator account linked to a Facebook Page. Personal Instagram accounts cannot publish via API and are not supported by Unison.

  1. 1

On Instagram mobile, open Settings → Account → Account type. If you are on a Personal account, switch to Business or Creator. The change is reversible.

  2. 2

Link the Instagram account to a Facebook Page you admin. Open the Page in Meta Business Suite, choose Settings → Linked accounts → Instagram and follow the prompt.

  3. 3

In Unison, open Settings → Channels and click Add channel, then pick Instagram. Sign in with the Facebook account that admins the Page.

  4. 4

Approve the scopes. Unison asks for: read profile, publish posts and Reels, read comments on posts published through Unison.

  5. 5

Pick which Instagram account to expose as a channel. Repeat for any additional accounts.

What you can publish

  • Single-image and video feed posts
  • Carousel posts (up to 10 items)
  • Reels
  • Stories (image or video)

What is not supported

  • Cross-posting to Instagram from a Personal account, due to API limits set by Meta.
  • Editing a post after publish (Instagram does not expose an edit endpoint for organic posts).

Removing access

Disconnect inside Unison and the OAuth token is deleted within 7 days. You can also revoke from Meta at Settings → Business Integrations.
